Fashion

The holiday season seems to have inspired our favorite brand Dior to the fullest: shortly after we learnt about the launch of the gorgeous Dior State of Gold holiday 2015 makeup collection, here came the news about the launch of the Dior Holiday 2015 Couture Palettes. Moreover, the launch date for sales is the same – this November! Now this is overwhelming, as we have hardly ever seen such an abundance of makeup kits that are absolutely to die for.

The first thing to notice here is the classy package, which is a black wallet-like case with zipper containing everything you need for your entire couture makeup look (except for mascara) – powder, blush, eyeshadows and lip products with three travel-size applicators. These include double-sided brushes for eyes (sponges) and lips and a fluffy angled mini brush for powder and blush, which are definitely easier to use.

• Diorific Face Powder in No. 001 Rose d’Or
• Dior Eyeshadows in matte peachy pink, silver-taupe, purple and shimmery gold, champagne and black
• Diorblush in matte baby pink
• Dior Addict Gloss in a rosewood-pink shade

• Lip Maximizer in watermelon-pink
• Dior Eyeshadows in shimmery beige-gold, mauve-purple and matte merlot-brown

Dior Holiday Couture Collection Pret-a-Porter Nude Palette for Eyes & Lips ($62.00)

For those of you who are more into classic nudes and browns to fit any occasion, Dior has prepared this palette, which is similar to the previous Smoky palette, but has colder shades. It includes:

• Lip Maximizer in Peachy-Pink
• Dior Rouge Lipstick in No. 766
• Dior Eyeshadows in Champagne, Bronze and matte Cider-Brown

Dior Backstage Brush Set ($95.00) (Limited Edition)

Finally, yet importantly, here comes a small set with Dior mascara and a small five-color eyeshadow palette (first released in fall 2014), which will make your eyes especially attractive and proper looking for both formal and informal occasions. Beauty Inspiration from Emmy Awards 2015

Fashion

The Emmy Awards of 2015 just took place but 2 days ago and the media is abuzz with the results. It was to be expected that Game of Thrones would wipe the slate clean, but none imagined them taking home 12 trophies! Sunday’s telecast of the 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards brought to the red carpet as well as the stage some of the loveliest ladies in town, who stunned with their gowns and even more so with their beauty looks that were all it took to sweep the men on their arms away. While the audience was the smallest yet at only 11.9 million viewers, down from last year’s 15.6 million, the ladies and gents in the crowd were certainly looking dapper. We love the Emmys because we love television and that is a fact. It was intriguing that Modern Family got left with nothing, but others like Orange is the New Black and West Wingwere more than expected. At the end of the day though, we all watch to check out what people are wearing and which new beauty trends the celebrities are sporting during the major breaks in their careers. But who exactly took home the prize for best beauty looks from the Emmy Awards 2015 – unofficially, of course?

Emmy Awards 2015 Celebrity Hairstyles and Beauty

1. Julianne Hough

She’s been a favourite on Dancing With the Stars. The 27-year-old American dancer, singer, songwriter and actress is the two-time professional champion of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars series, which has won the hearts of North Americans and many others worldwide. From Orem, Utah, the girl’s got country written all over her and whether she’s singing or dancing, she is a star. Beautiful beyond belief, it came as a bit of a surprise to see her glowing so much on the red carpet. She took headwear to a whole new level by adding the same type of corseting used on her sexy dress to her hairdo while pulling everything back and giving a bump or two or three at the crown. It is an intriguing look where her face is fully revealed but we have certainly seen some better images. We love the peach on her lips and the smoky shadow though, offsetting the glow in her cheeks, on her chin and forehead. We almost feel like handing her some powder!

2. January Jones

American actress and model from South Dakota, the 37-year-old January Kristen Jones is too hot to handle, as seen in her roles on Mad Men, American Wedding and many others. Apparently she’s been having relationship troubles as well, since it is plastered all over the news that her and Will Forte are done for after five months of dating. Needless to say, she is beyond gorgeous and her name was given to match her month of birth, making her pretty unique. For a woman of her age, she doesn’t look a day over 25, especially when she opts for the barely there look she had on during the Emmys 2015. Some reddish pink lipstick, a slight dash of liner and mascara and shoulder-length hair parted from the center, left straight are lovely to behold.

3. Laura Prepon

If there was a woman to stun the crowd, it was the Orange is the New Black actress Laura Prepon, with her scarlet gown complete with a mermaid train and a golden bolero jacket on top for added appeal. The former That ‘70s Show sitcom star might be 35 years old, but she most certainly is exquisite to behold with her New Jersey style and sophisticated manners. She’s chic and fabulous, what with her incredible smoky eyes blended perfectly with inky opaque liner and those really long lashes that could make even the least lustful male stare in awe. Her messy updo complements the look perfectly, while her peachy lipstick is just what the beautician ordered. She was probably the best look on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards 2015.

4. Taylor Schilling

Cute, Sweet and utterly adorable in her bright yellow backless dress on the red carpet, the pop of color certainly suits the 31-year-old Orange is the New Black actress, who has won the Satellite Award for Best Actress in a television series musical or comedy. She’s been on the silver screen since 2007, but began her acting career back in middle school when she appeared on stage for Fiddler on the Roof. To date, she is the winner of 5 awards, including one this year for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Her look for the Emmys was probably not one of her best though, the Old Hollywood theme not really matching with her facial structure, despite the whole Baby thing happening. She literally looks like she walked out of the original Dirty Dancing film. On the other hand, she was most definitely looking the part of a Greek goddess, with her tangerine lips and shiny waves. Add a sunny smile and she was the most captivating of actresses on the carpet.

5. Kerry Washington

When it comes to the sexiest stars on the big screen, Kerry Washington is certainly one of the best known and most loved. Her performance on the hit series Scandal was breathtaking and her quirky attitude and sense of style are always there to keep up intrigued… like the scandalously sexy leather zip-up dress worn a few days back on Jimmy Kimmel Live. When it comes to beauty looks, this is one lady who can look chic and sophisticated while also using those killer curves to leave men begging at her feet. At the Emmys though, she was all mature, beautiful and soft, very much the strong woman she has often played to be. With a sequined dress like that we would not expect anything less than a bob really as those shoulder embellishments needed to be shown off. Lightly lined lips and eyes with a healthy amount of mascara and a shiny look to the skin was all it took to complete the 38-year-old’s comely look, making her the beauty icon of mature women everywhere.

NYFW Spring 2016 Brightest Street Style Moments

Fashion

While the Fashion Week runway shows capture all the attention, it is the styles seen on the streets that really reels us in. Each and every show attracts some of the most fashionable of It girls, who cannot but appear in the most fitting and appropriate of outfits in line with the latest fashions and often in brands matching the shows they deem fit to attend. New York Fashion Week has been first on the list, with London to follow next, where we expect some incredible shows with the most astoundingly dressed of audiences. The British are as in tune with their fashion as are the French and Italians.

So what exactly have the past few days of New York Fashion Week spring 2016street fashion consisted of?

NYFW Spring 2016 Street Style

• Slits up the thighs are a common enough thing.

• Skirts are either minis or falling past the knees for the most part.

• There are some gorgeous long vests with trouser sets that we have noticed are prominent on the runways this season as well.

• Black seems to be a big color block to work with.

• Denim coveralls and pants make their own appearance as an ode to the ‘70s.

• Transparency and suede, along with black leather, combine with the denim for an all-out ‘70s theme, the biggest trend of the 2015 seasons that has also slowly seeped into 2016 it appears.

• There is a bit more of a casual aspect to the street style, including the combination of sweaters and miniskirts, polo shirts with denim, jean shorts and dresses.

• Black and white options offer an optical illusion with stripes at different angles utilized on one particular long sleeved dress with matching thick-heeled ankle strapped d’Orsay.

• If you are going to be glamorous, it only makes sense to wear dresses and shoes that are star spangled and looking fine.

One particular sweater that stands out is one with patches stitched on claiming that she is a radical feminist and that she values gender equality. Political and social messages are not new to the fashion world so it would make sense to see something of this calibre appear. Handbags appearing on the streets were often of intriguing looks as well, some with fur hanging off in an attempt to match up with the FW 2015 trends. Tassels, fringe and interesting accessories keep us intrigued throughout. Despite the cooler weather, many did not pick up a jacket, nor did they switch out of the sandals that are clearly worn with love. Between pleated pieces, denim pants, knit corded sweaters, thin belts, center slit skirts and oversized sunglasses, this was a rather Americanized version to street style, with only a few more chic and sophisticated looks out from the runway.

One particular look we fell in love with includes a bright pink top tucked into a side-tie waist pinstriped pair of trousers, one shoulder peeking through a mass of pink ruffles cascading down her side and looking positively fabulous. Then again, it was fun to see a crisp white tee tucked into a pleated leather skirt with a rather well rounded bust drawn onto the chest region, effectively saying I’m naked while still protecting my body from the colder breeze out. While some had a slightly sexier feel to the outfits, others looked bedraggled and not quite as lovely as one would expect the crowd to be during the New York Fashion Week days.

Harper’s Bazaar ‘Icons’ Party Closes NYFW

Fashion

As the abounding New York Fashion Week spring 2016 has come to its end, all the “participants” of the event wish for one thing only – rest! But the wish goes secondary, when an influential figure like Carine Roitfeld organizes a huge event like Harper’s Bazaar “Icons” Party in Plaza Hotel and invites them to it. Famous celebrities, It girls, designers and just beauties attended the party dedicated to Roitfeld’s Sept. 2015 “Icons” portfolio for Harper’s Bazaar shot by the iconic fashion photographer Jean Paul Goude. The portfolio includes fabulous photos of such celebrity as Oprah, Mariah Carrey, Dakota Johnson and Katy Perry. The party was especially thrilling, as Miss Perry appeared there not only as a center figure of the portfolio shots, but as a musical guest as well. Wearing a chic R’n’B inspired Phillip Treacy for Alexander McQueen butterfly dress first and then changing into a performance outfit of B. Akerlund gown, the style diva left everyone jaw-dropped singing hits like “Roar” and “Teenage Dream”.

Of course, the event had a special dress code – “Fantasy Evening Attire”. One after another, the attendees were arriving donning the most exquisite gowns ever. Most of the guests were the models that make up the chief part of any fashion week. Gigi Hadid with her sister Bella, Kendall Jenner, Doutzen Kroez, Alessandra Ambrosio, Lily Donaldson, Anna Cheveland were among the runway divas who looked as fabulous as on magazine covers. The cameras could not but demonstrate the elegance of the long white halter-neck dress on Kendall, or the long-sleeve black-and-white short dress (from the H&M x Balmain collection, by the way) that sat on Gigi like a second skin. Among the most famous celeb guests were Rita Ora in a flattering black gown, Kate Upton, Mariah Carrey and Bella Thorne, who wore no less swanky outfits (all in black, as well) shining at the party like stars. Of course, such fashion figures as Prabal Gurung and Jason Wu were also among the very important guests, which made the gathering even more filled with couture vibe. The hostess Carine herself looked fantastic in a silver sequin gown and bold torn-up tights.

The atmosphere there was an eccentric mixture of high-fashion, evening elegance and fun! Yes, I mean it. It was a real party with all drinks, songs, dances and stuff to make the closing of New York Fashion Week as memorable and sleek as possible. Accompanied by the crazy lights and music, everyone was dressing in sparkles and having a party to the fullest next to the bar. An hour before the event would finish, Harper’s Bazaar debuted a short movie-clip, which showed the behind-the-scenes shots and gave the idea of how the portfolio was made. Only after this Katy appeared on stage and performed her five-song strand, during which she sent heart-warming and sometimes funny-sarcastic messages like when she said that the song “I kissed a girl” was for Mariah Carrey for her opening way to many artists. Although she never stood up from her seat, she definitely got the heat. Anyway, we could not imagine a party with all camera-lovers in to go without scandals or intrigues. The show was a loud one, which served as a defining full stop to the fashion fuss we have been the evidence of lately.

Carolina Herrera Spring/Summer 2016 Collection – New York Fashion Week

Fashion

Carolina Herrera has long been one of our favourites when it comes to the Fashion Week runway shows that take over our lives for just about a month twice a year. She’s one of those designers that cater to the young at heart but mature personalities, with a resolutely modern minded appeal to her inspirations and final products. Her creations for the Carolina Herrera spring/summer 2016 collection that was presented yesterday midway through morning certainly fit in with our ideals for her, only serving to solidify our love for everything Carolina Herrera.

Carolina Herrera Spring/Summer 2016 Collection

She’s all uptown girl really, with a slight downtown aspect to her creations. She knows how to capture the more delicate nature of a woman without oversimplifying her appeal or sexing her up too much. On the contrary, she brings out the genteel, the beauty and the sophistication of a lady, who understands her femininity without giving up her power, hiding it in those modern pleats of her dress made up of narrow strips of tech fabrics stitched onto transparent mesh. It is decorous but discreet, gorgeous without overdoing it. It is modern and futuristic even while still bringing in the appeal that was found in the old-fashioned designs in this stylization.

Herrera has also got the real pleats appearing on the day dresses though and her fascination with a dusky pink is clear, like the summer blush of a lady pure of the world’s troubles. She is a confident woman, but one given to tea dates and strolls about town with the girls, one, who expects a courtship and values herself rather highly. She is a lady through and through and that is the image Carolina Herrera has created time and again.

In Herrera’s own words, fashion should be optimistic and since this appears to be her rose period, it is only fitting to have shades of pink appear on the runway, albeit with a dash of black and blue and white throughout. Transparency is a big theme here, while presented in a modest manner. The designer knows that it only gets boring if you reveal everything, which essentially has led to her understanding that if she wants to captivate, a more modest approach is the best avenue to take. Peekaboo l’oeil pleats were only one of her secrets to achieving this, while techno mesh and neoprene came into focus as well.

While modesty was key, it was not cloy sweetness we were faced with but optimistic chis that centered on sophistication and gentility. She had the dresses for the evening as well as the day, while her synthetic materials appeared all the more intriguing than real silks and cottons could ever be. Off the shoulder, mid-thigh hems, high necks and calf-length skirts, the colors swirled about and there was everything to love about this particular collection that could all but literally take our breaths away. Those modern pleats really did it for us, pushing the Carolina Herrera spring 2016 collection to the top of our “to buy” lists for the upcoming seasons of beauty and warmth.

Tommy Hilfiger Spring/Summer 2016 Collection – New York Fashion Week

Fashion

Tommy, Tommy, you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind! At least that’s what comes to mind upon seeing the latest in collections, the Tommy Hilfiger spring/summer 2016 ready-to-wear lineup that traipsed onto the catwalk during the New York Fashion Week. It was the island life that Hilfiger planned to capture and boy did he do a good job at it, bringing in the themes from the exclusive Caribbean island of Mustique, turning the show into a nostalgic experience for those, who have had the pleasure of enjoying the island’s beauty for themselves and creating a sense of awe among those who have yet to taste the forbidden fruits of the hidden paradise. Crochet bikinis appeared on stage and were most certainly reminiscent of all that the islands had to offer with sexy gang of Gigi and Bella Hadid, along with Hailey Baldwin and others skipping into the water for a rather interesting finale to the show.

Tommy Hilfiger Spring/Summer 2016 Collection

While many focused on the clothing itself, the Tommy Hilfiger spring 2016 collection brought its focus on colorful and creative swimwear, though not without the accompaniment of youthful and rather upbeat vacation pieces that we can already imagine lining our luggage that will be taken with us on our next trip down to Portofino. Among the 60 pieces presented, there were more than enough pieces of inspiration to give us tropical island dreams for months on end, getting us through the colder days of winter with ease. Youthful and playful was the theme and the knit trend seems to continue with gusto, appearing on bucket hats (another must-have for the season to come, as it appears) in sunny colors, mesh vests and soccer tracksuits in an interesting burgundy suede.

Crochet is big now and we can certainly see why! With its airy appeal and gorgeous effects on the skin underneath, it brings grandmother’s renditions to mind while still maintaining its contemporary feel. The 1970s might have been so very last year but that does not mean that 2016 won’t be bringing in hints of those trends this year as well, something this collection has proven in abundance. Patchwork and billowing chiffon dresses aside, that crochet is all the 1970s bohemian you need this year.

While we certainly do have hints of the others, it is the bikinis that really get the blood boiling at the moment. We can’t be seen striding down the streets in a string bikini unless we’re beachside these days, but we can certainly put on any of these awesome dresses, or even decide to traipse about in a trademark orange and navy colored knit sweater with a monkey staring out the front. Nothing to see here folks, carry on! It’s fun, its happy and the Tommy Hilfiger spring 2016 collection is all the summery you really need! The knit sweater and crochet dresses will get you through the cooler spring days at least, before you can go frolic in the sun in a bikini that makes you feel like you are young, no matter what your real age may be.
